An Artist’s Journey
Flavius Pisapia is an international artist who has been living and working in different countries including Romania, Italy, England, and India since his youth and has absorbed different cultural influences that have shaped his art practice. These include folklore, Classical art and music, modern and contemporary art and spiritual philosophy and practice. Flavius’ artistic journey began with an interest in art for healing, which led him to a full-time course in Art Therapy. Before this step, he worked in film-making, photography, wrote poetry, and explored the visual arts.

Art Therapy (M.A.) & Sculpture Training, UK
Flavius studied a four year MA course at Tobias School of Art & Therapy in Transformative Arts (Health & Wellbeing) and Transpersonal Arts in Therapy in the UK. The course covered art history and offered a training in Visual Arts with an emphasis on the proficient use of artistic techniques, exercises and materials - in drawing, painting and sculpture. Through working with different media and getting an in-depth knowledge of each, he gradually recognised his affinity for sculpture, finding himself more fully in form in space than any other medium. He enjoyed the hands-on engagement with clay more than painting or drawing where the tool stands between artist and artwork. Flavius was mentored in sculpture at Hoathly Hill Sculpture Studio by Gertraud Goodwin and at Tobias School of Art by Maria Albiez. During this time, he learned techniques in clay modelling, stone carving and wood carving, presenting his sculptures at studio exhibits.

Art Teaching and Art Therapy

Flavius facilitated art and art therapy to groups and individuals. He was also invited to teach watercolour painting modules to Peredur Eurythmy students as part of their training, and held weekly Art for Wellbeing classes for the local community at Peredur Centre for the Arts, UK. He gave art therapy sessions to people with special needs at Pericles and Tablehurst Cottage, and to the elderly at Care UK. He taught art for wellbeing workshops and gave art therapy sessions for children and adults at Just Being Center, India. He conducted Sculpture Therapy training modules over 6 intensive days, on an Art Therapy training accredited by the Medical Section of the Goetheanum, Switzerland, to 25 doctors and therapists. Flavius also conducted a 12-day Sculpture Therapy training for the core team members of studio Adipa, and Hrishikesh Pawar's dance team, as an introduction to the principles of the human being viewed from an Anthroposophical art and therapy perspective.

Residencies and Studio Work

Flavius set up his home studio after his residency at Adipa ceramic studio, for creating ceramic sculptures using the Raku technique. In this phase of his artistic work, he explored the Möbius form, a harmonious, archetypal movement using sculpture elements such as the double bent plane. This was the starting point for his in-depth study of organic forms and transformation of forms. His residency at Mandala Pottery was a continuation of his exploration and experimentation with ceramics, testing the material with his organic sculpture forms. He had the chance to play with ideas; worked with local seed pods for inspiration and came out with a new series to be made in bronze. He transitioned from his Möbius forms into free forms inspired by nature. In the residency at Studio Sukriti, Flavius develops new abstract sculptures for a diverse portfolio of work, cast in silicon bronze. He works with the artistic impulses given by Rudolf Steiner and is influenced by the Modernist artists such as Hans Arp, Naum Gabo, Henri Moore, and Constantin Brancusi. His sculptures are free from concepts and move towards pure and free form. He makes sculptures by commission, available in any dimension and shipped worldwide. Please visit the Commissions page for details. The sculpture studio has state-of-the art facilities and experienced staff, with an art foundry specialising in Lost Wax Casting. The studio is one-of-a- kind in India and serves renowned artists and clients worldwide. On the 1st of July 2020 Flavius will complete one year working full time at Studio Sukriti.
