About the artwork
The Trees sculpture series is inspired by the duality of Life and Knowledge in the human story. The essence of the three archetypes, Knowledge, Life, and Man is expressed through the movement of planes. Knowledge is constructed out of an organic combination of triangle and rectangle shapes in both positive and negative space. The pattern of angles suggest a mountainous landscape of untouched, lofty peaks. By contrast, Life has a leaflike structure and its rhythmic, waving movement resembles the biosphere in water and plant impressions. The third, Man, is an elongated trunk on the perpendicular with shallow curves, sleek angles, and pointedness. A collar seems to wrap around an invisible neck, sophisticated and elegant. The visual balance between the two extremes of Knowledge and Life is found in Man.
