Embodiments of Infinity - Solo show - The Cube Gallery, Goa - 2021
Presenting bronze and ceramic sculptures along with oil and mixed media paintings, Embodiments of Infinity explores, celebrates, and announces a world of pure form. Biomorphic abstraction emerged in the early 20th century in sculpture and painting when artists sought expression for nature’s germinal forces of life through a language of pure form that stood on its own, without fixed, rational meaning. Suggestive of nature, but not resembling its finished objects, the rounded archetypal forms speak of essence and potency that produce the multiplicity of nature’s forms. This solo show by sculptor Flavius Pisapia is a celebration of life forces, presenting an impactful body of work, created over the past five years, in a continual search for the forces and processes that sustain and uplift us. Open from the 28th of January until 20th of March 2021.

Artist in residence at Mandala Pottery, Auroville - 2019
Flavius completed four months artist in residence at the Mandala Pottery run by Adil Writer. It was a continuation of his exploration and experimentation with ceramics, testing the material with his organic sculpture forms. He had the chance to play with ideas; worked with local seed pods for inspiration and came out with a new series to be made in bronze. During this time of new ideas and artistic expansion, he had the opportunity to improve his understanding of ceramics, identifying the medium's potential in its immediacy as well as its limitation, in its fragility. He also met many artists including Ray and Deborah, of Golden Bridge Pottery at their private gallery in Pondicherry.
Raku Studio, Pune - 2018
Flavius set up his home studio for creating ceramic sculptures using the Raku technique. He bought the main components of his set-up like the kiln, glazes and large tongs from Sundeep Manchekar of Anvi Pottery, located on the outskirts of Pune. He visited the studio to test-fire the kiln and note down instructions, before it was delivered home. The Raku sculpture firings were done during the hot summer on the open terrace. Two sets of firings were done: 'bisque' firing, followed by 'glaze' firing, where the pieces are pulled out at 1000°C and placed into a reduction chamber filled with burning material. The black smoke enters into the cracks, creating the Raku effect. Throughout the process safety equipment is a must. Firing typically takes 7-8 hours.
