Sculpture Commissions
What is the value of art?
Art is the act of uniting with a creative and evolving force. The changemaker, Art, can speak and play through anyone open to its influence. This force finds expression in artists and art patrons and renews all branches of civilization. But it is not so easily influenced by them in turn.
The practice and appreciation of art are in close association with self-exploration. Art can sharpen our senses and refine our aesthetic taste. It can also help us connect to ourselves and the world. An individual’s deepening relationship with an artwork leads to an aesthetic experience. At first, the colors, shapes, and other formal qualities fill the senses. Gradually, the visual pleasure can become quieter and richer by meditative reflection. The inner and outer worlds balance visual enjoyment and multilayered meanings.

What Problems Does My Sculpture Aim to Solve?
(1) Human Personality Over Lifeless Perfection
Handmade art gives the viewer authentic human art. On an artistic-aesthetic level, handmade art gives the impression of warmth of soul and personality because the artist's skill level is clearly and honestly visible to everyone. In my process, the maquettes are created entirely by hand, and my knowledge about form deepens and shows with every piece. Conversely, art created entirely by technology, such as advanced 3D computer software, seems to me to hide the artist's voice and abilities for the sake of a perfection which gives an impression of cold precision, lacking the human touch.
(2) Moving From Group Passivity to Individual Activity
Abstract sculpture gives viewers the freedom to individually perceive, think and feel whatever comes up for them. I choose to work in the abstract style because it does not impose anything specifically on the viewer but allows the viewer to find in it their own meaning unique to them. By contrast, if I look at a figurative work of a flower for example, my imagination is not stimulated and I cannot perceive anything beyond the obvious. A sculpture of a flower will be experienced the same way by a group because it doesn't leave anyone free to see anything else in it. Whereas an abstract sculpture inspired by a flower leaves every individual free to form their own thoughts and feelings about it.
(3) Becoming Whole
I intentionally work in sculpture series rather than making one-off sculptures to show a metamorphosis of form. Through the observation of the series the viewer can develop living thinking, which goes beyond the intellectual level to a more holistic thinking: a thinking that understands wholes, not just parts. This is a decisive contrast to conceptual artwork that arises out of purely material processes and in my view disconnects the human being from their evolving aims and needs of a spiritual nature.
(4) The Source of Art is Higher Than the Artist
In my work I use archetypes to give the viewer an experience of pure form; of objective thinking and feeling, inspired by a higher world. I feel a need for uplifting themes and purity of form which I aim to bring in each of my works. Having studied art therapy I make a clear dividing line between what constitutes therapy and art. There is so much personal art out there which arises out of the artist's unhealthy psychological or pathological illnesses.

Biomorphic Abstract Sculpture
In biomorphic abstraction, nature’s forms are amplified by the artist’s hand. At the heart of this art movement is the idea that art and nature spring from the same source. “Organic Abstraction aimed not to build or construct rationally, but to emulate the germinal forces of nature.” – Visual Arts Cork. Flavius Pisapia’s portfolio is based on several series of work springing from themes. The first form of each series organically metamorphoses into the next. One can follow the movement by focusing on the transitions between forms.
Nature experiences inspire these forms and carry a stylistic consistency. “Since my early childhood, I have moved home and country, collecting impressions of organic forms, which find their way into my art. From the subtle curve of an animal's back to the billowing waves of a hillside, part living creature and part elemental nature, my work often morphs elements together, giving life to mythological trees, sea-waves with human heads, singing spirals, and half-leaf, half-human reclining forms.” – Artist Statement.

Why Commission a Bronze Sculpture?
An art patron is confident in buying art and appreciates high-value art. He seeks art evaluation but ultimately knows for himself an opportunity when he sees it – a contemporary work with timeless aesthetics to be inspired by every day. Apart from being a delightful addition to their space, high-value sculpture has other attractions for clients.
A Unique Moment
An article about valuing art commercially from Artnet indicates timing. Art dealer William Acquavella told his clients, “You can remake your money, but you can’t remake the painting.” The fact that an opportunity to buy a particular artwork will not be repeated strengthens the client’s resolve.
Thinking Big
Size matters with this art form, so clients think large-scale. The viewer will want to walk around it, see it from a distance, and have it be a statement piece elevating their environment.
Creating The Future
Art as an investment can be appreciated in a secondary market. The artist’s status increases, promoted by reputable galleries and art consultants. The idea of commissioning a unique work that can leap in value in the future is another attraction for clients.
Flavius Pisapia Studio presents:
● Original abstract works for custom large-scale projects
● Portfolio aimed at collectors of unique, limited-edition, abstract sculptures
● Art with potential for the secondary art market

The Role of the Art Consultant
Working with an art consultant makes the commission process smoother. The consultant offers expertise in mediating the client’s needs with what the artist has to offer. The result is the best piece being sourced for the project.
At this initial stage clients can expect to review the following:
● Selected Flavius Pisapia Portfolio works from a vast collection of 30+ working models
● Renderings of sculpture options in a photo of the client's intended space
● Picking patina color and size options for the sculpture and base
Bronze Sculpture Fabrication At The Foundry
We work with full-service foundries in the US and Italy to fabricate sculptures. The foundry uses 3D technology to enlarge the artist’s original model to sizes starting at six feet.
● Direct casting for more efficiency and accuracy
● 3D scanning and printing for monumental enlargement
● Ceramic shell mold into which liquid bronze is poured
The following galleries currently represent Flavius Pisapia:
Source Art - with art consultant MaryLinda Moss, Sculpturesite Gallery - with gallerist Brigitte Micmacker.
