About the artwork
The Portraits of the Self sculpture series is an imagining in form of capacities that belong to the Self. The maquette portraits unexpectedly replace the dome of the head with a petal-like shape: a natural curve and thinly rounded edge. The form bridges the human being and nature. The slanting "head" is suggestive of a listening and curious attitude. The "shoulders" wrap around a geometric negative space, forming a vertical containment. Through organic pure forms the Self-portrait is enlarged from the personal to the universal.
