About the artwork
The Portraits of the Self sculpture series is an imagining in form of the inner and outer perceptions that form the Self's identity, through thought and memory. The clay maquette portraits unexpectedly replace the dome of the head with a petal-like shape: a natural curve and thinly rounded edge. The form bridges the human being and nature. The slanting "head" is suggestive of a listening and curious attitude. The "shoulders" wrap around a cylindrical negative space, forming a tight vertical containment. The twist positioning of organic round and square shapes on the perpendicular and triangles on the base. Pure forms which recall mythic Sky, Earth, Pyramid; the Self-portrait enlarged from personal to mythical and universal identity.
Commission this work
The commissions are carried out using the latest 3D technology in collaboration with the best bronze and stone studios in Italy and the USA. Collectors can choose from a variety of bronze patinas and types of stone. Sizes range between 60cm / 24" and 335cm / 132". For commission inquiries, email flavius.pisapia@gmail.com
